Declaración del Artísta (Spanish) I saw a world of fantasy through a surreal window. Saw
what I needed to see and embraced it. It is clear in my understanding and vision. It is abstract in essence, but realistic
in message. I explore this ethereal world and submit to it hoping to strip from the everyday ordinary. The work from artists like Vincent Van Gogh and Salvador Dalí
have touched my very soul. I did not understand it at first because I needed to grow more in many ways. There is something
in their work that stays with me. Of course, many other contemporary artists, specially from my birth place, Puerto Rico,
influence my vision. Artists like Rafael Tufiño and Arnaldo Roche are guiding lights in my career as an artist. In front
of my canvas, I try to imagine their creative process; but I end up floating away into the colors and textures in front of
me. Then I return and discover that all that is left is my signature. My approach to color is somewhat bold and unexpected. Even
I am surprised at how they blend in harmony making each stroke an experiment. I have been working with texture for some time
now and I believe it is the last ingredient in my creative process. With my work, I do not look for the answers to the world's
sublime questions nor I portray the tragedies that we live day by day. I only speak to me and to whoever wants to understand
what I am saying. I pretend to explore beyond what has been painted and copied hundreds of times and yes, I am severe and
fearless defending my views and philosophy. I do it with my brushes in canvas. I use my freedom of speech as artistic license.
I like to think of my work as a new movement. I imagine my paintings
traveling the world spreading color and intrigue to every spectator. I want to be talked about and known in the art world
as a sincere and honest painter who wanted to make each piece personal yet sort of complicated and a bit over the edge. Maybe
it will happen in my lifetime. Maybe not. For now, I keep doing what I love.
